ROJO x SIEMPRE NOCHE LATINA
MAY 10th, 2025
New York > Los Angeles. In a stunning display of dominance, the New York Red Bulls delivered one of the most memorable performances in MLS history, dismantling the defending champions LA Galaxy with a historic 7-0 victory at Sports Illustrated Stadium on Latino Night. This remarkable achievement, reminiscent of the infamous "Red Wedding" from 2016, has breathed new life into the Red Bulls' campaign and energized their passionate fanbase ahead of a big week in MLS.
A Masterclass in Attacking Football was displayed at the goal scoring fiesta in Harrison, New Jersey. The fiesta began early when Eric Choupo-Moting opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a quality finish. Receiving the ball from Emil Forsberg at the top of the 18-yard box, Choupo-Moting drove forward with purpose before unleashing a precise shot into the bottom corner, showcasing the skill that made him valuable at European giants Bayern Munich and PSG.
What followed was nothing short of a goal-scoring exhibition as Forsberg and Choupo-Moting traded goals in the 16th and 31st minutes, giving the Red Bulls a commanding 3-0 lead heading into halftime. The chemistry between these experienced internationals proved too much for a struggling Galaxy defense to handle.
Rather than sitting back on their lead, the Red Bulls continued their relentless attack after the break in a second half onslaught. Forsberg nonchalantly curled a free kick in the top corner to make it 4-0, further demonstrating the team's killer instinct. The freedom and fluidity of their play was a refreshing sight for fans who haven't seen such attacking verve from their team this season.
Young talents Camron Harper and Dennis Gjengaar joined the scoring party, combining for two more goals to extend the lead to 6-0. The raucous home crowd, sensing a historic moment, began chanting "we want seven!" Their wishes were granted in unusual fashion when Yamane's attempted back pass to McCarthy sailed over the goalkeeper's head, resulting in an own goal and completing the 7-0 rout.
