This past July, the FeelsGood FC squad assembled eleven men from across the tri state to take care of a 7v7 job down in Philly - small sided - the Icarus Cup. Our first trip as a team outside New Jersey, it was an honor and thrilling experience to come together as a unit and experience a competitive weekend of football against other like-minded mens leagues teams from across the area.
The steaming 90+ degree temperatures on turf this particular weekend were enough to put our feet on fire through the cleats. Although the morning started off bleak with a tight 4-3 loss to Ben Franklin Bridges, the lads managed to come out victorious of Abierto II division on day one beating both Rum Ham and Sipcy Boi FC. The afternoon handed us a blessing in disguise from a thunderstorm which would halt the round of 16, allowing the team to enjoy a few from our local vendor sponsor Two Robbers , check out the vendors and amenities, and look forward to Sunday.
Overcoming a night out in Philly with a 9am Round of 16 kickoff was never an easy feat. Battered, bruised and dehydrated, electrolytes and glory seemed to be the only thing keeping the boys going. Winning this tight match 5-4 vs a strong Vidas United squad was a peak moment for FeelsGood FC. At this point in the weekend you could tell the team was hurting. A quarterfinal stomping from Colonial SC was the last straw and saw our exit from the Cup.
The event proved to be a great success and learning experience for FeelsGood FC. As we continue to grow the club and compete against new talent, it is a sure sign that we can always be better and improve on all facets of the game. See you next year, Philly!
